Christchurch Chiropractor : Dr. Jim Miller

A car accident in my teenage years put me on the path to chiropractic.

Before the accident I was a great student, physically fit and enjoyed a normal healthy life.  But after the accident, I suffered severe headaches, neck and back pain.  I was very sleepy most of the time and found it difficult to concentrate.  After a few months of these frustrating symptoms with no relief from conventional therapy, my mother took me to my first chiropractor.  I was lucky that I had such a fantastic mother to introduce me to chiropractic and it was to be a turning point in my health and in my life.

My concentration returned and I gained almost complete relief from my pain within the first few weeks of treatment.  I had a new found energy and life got increasingly better as treatment progressed.  Unfortunately the insurance discontinued their payments and my mother was forced to cease my chiropractic treatment.  Gradually, my headaches and aches came back.

I put up with these headaches and aches for a few years, before I managed to slip on the floor at work and put my back out.  It was the most intense pain imaginable and I could hardly walk.  But luckily from past experience, I knew where to go, and gained the relief that I needed.  I also gained a new passion to pursue chiropractic as a career and show people how they could be as easily helped as I had been.

Chiropractic Education

Excited about starting at chiropractic school, I was more than a little sceptical that it would take me a full 5 years to learn to practice chiropractic.  My youthful ignorance was soon replaced by feelings of sheer apprehension when I was led for the first time into the dissecting lab by our anatomy and physiology instructor.   I was overcome by how much was expected of me and just how complex the human body and especially the nervous system really are.   I spent the first hour of my chiropractic career wandering around the dissection table dazed and in disbelief

A great desire to learn about this incredible science of chiropractic allowed me to soldier on and study hard, and I have now had the pleasure of helping thousands of people at my own practice.  My philosophy is very simple – I want people to live happier healthy lives.  Maintaining a healthy spine, and thus nervous system, is fundamental in doing this.

Good Health is My Ultimate Aim

I practise what I preach as like everybody that I know, good health is my ultimate aim.  If I do not look good and feel good, I am hardly in a position to help others.   I eat well (80% vegetarian diet), drink plenty of water, and exercise by doing yoga, tai chi, hill climbs, biking and walking.  I never neglect to relax the mind, body and soul – it is incredibly important to take time out for your self.  It pays greater dividends later.    I also get a chiropractic adjustment once a week from my retired chiropractor friend John and do not allow prescription drugs to mask my symptoms, so I can correct the cause of any problems that may occur, which is very rare.  What more can I say? …I feel fantastic!

Dr. Jim Asks some important questions of interest to Christchurch residents - Chiropractor Christchurch Dr. Jim Asks...

Can chiropractic relieve PMS?
If you have subluxations, especially in the lower spine that impair nerves that direct and monitor the reproductive and hormonal systems, chiropractic could be helpful. Undetected subluxations may also be responsible for pelvic pain, incontinence, sexual dysfunction and even infertility. Maybe chiropractic can help. Find out!
How does headache medication find the headache?
It can't! Chiropractors know that when you ingest a drug and it enters your bloodstream it numbs or deadens your entire body. Chiropractic adjustments, on the other hand, are specific, targeted and delivered with precision.
